Fourteen people have died due to negligence from a compounding center in New England called “NECC.” This company is responsible for mixing medicines and pre-filling injections syringes with its medicine. It is responsible for vials of contaminated epidural steroid injections and the death of fourteen people. These vials are contaminated with a rare form of Aspergillus Meningitis and being that they are epidural shots; they were being administered directly into the patient’s back. This is very serious and dangerous because Meningitis is a deadly disease that affects the brain, spinal cord membranes and can lead to death. So injecting the disease straight into the back would expedite this disease’s deadliness.
NECC has recalled all of its products and has shut down due to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finding of Aspergillus Meningitis within its back pain medicine injections. The CDC also reports that 170 cases in eleven states have been found so far and sadly, this number keeps rising. Health officials estimate that as many as 13,000 people nationwide could possibly be exposed to this infected epidural injection since May of 2012.
Signs of Meningitis are headache, fever, dizziness, nausea, sensitivity to light, weakness, numbness, stiff neck, slurred speech, redness or swelling where you were injected, but all these symptoms can take nearly a month to appear.
If you have been harmed by a medication because a drug manufacturer made a dangerous product, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, hospitalization, pain and suffering, and other damages.
